Gauge and perspective

I've been knitting my blue Citron shawl and I've noticed something different. It's a lot smaller than the other two I made. The gauge is tighter and the stitches are smaller. Actually, the stitches are tiny. I'm knitting tiny blue stitches, trying to make something big enough to wrap around my shoulders. I may have a bit of a problem.

Πλέκω το μπλε Citron και πρόσεξα ότι κάτι δεν πάει καλά. Είναι αρκετά μικρότερο από τα άλλα δύο. Είναι πιο σφιχτό και οι πόντοι είναι μικρότεροι. Για την ακρίβεια, οι πόντοι είναι μικροσκοπικοί. Πλέκω υπερβολικά μικρούς πόντους και προσπαθώ να φτιάξω κάτι που θα είναι αρκετά μεγάλο ώστε να τυλίγομαι. Ίσως έχω ένα μικρό προβληματάκι.



In order to see how much smaller the blue Citron is, I put it on top of the pink one. I compared the fourth ruffle on each shawl, because that's where I am on the blue one. The first picture shows the center of the two shawls and the second picture shows the edge, where the difference in size is even more obvious.

Για να δω πόσο μικρότερο είναι το μπλε σάλι, το έβαλα πάνω από το ροζ. Σύγκρινα το τέταρτο "μαζεμένο" κομμάτι, γιατί μέχρι εκεί έχω πλέξει στο μπλε. Η πρώτη φωτογραφία δείχνει το κέντρο, ενώ η δεύτερη φωτογραφία δείχνει την άκρη, εκεί όπου η διαφορά στο μέγεθος είναι πολύ πιο εμφανής.



The pink arrow marks the end of the third repeat on the pink shawl. Basically, four repeats on the blue shawl are little more than three on the pink one. This means that in order to make the blue shawl as big as the pink one, I would have to do ten or eleven repeats instead of eight.

Το ροζ βελάκι δείχνει το τέλος του τρίτου μαζεμένου κομματιού στο ροζ. Βασικά, τέσσερις επαναλήψεις στο μπλε είναι λίγο περισσότερο από τρεις στο ροζ. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι για να γίνει το μπλε ίδιο μέγεθος με το ροζ, θα έπρεπε να πλέξω δέκα ή έντεκα επαναλήψεις αντί για οχτώ.



I'm not sure exactly how this happened. It's the same yarn and I'm using the same size needles. The only two possible explanations are:

a. The blue Malabrigo is a little thinner than the pink Malabrigo - I guess that could happen.

b. I'm using the same needle size but I'm not using the same needles. I knit the pink shawl with my Boye needles and I'm knitting the blue one with Hiya Hiya needles. The Hiyas are more shiny and slippery. Maybe that could explain the difference?

Δεν είμαι σίγουρη πώς έγινε αυτό. Είναι το ίδιο νήμα και οι βελόνες είναι το ίδιο μέγεθος. Τα δύο πιθανά ενδεχόμενα είναι:

α. Το μπλε νήμα είναι λίγο πιο λεπτό από το ροζ - υποθέτω ότι θα μπορούσε να συμβεί.

β. Παρ'όλο που οι βελόνες είναι μεγέθος, δεν είναι ίδιες. Για το ροζ χρησιμοποίησα βελόνες Boye ενώ στο μπλε πλέκω με Hiya Hiya. Οι Hiya Hiya είναι πιο γυαλιστερές και γλυστράνε περισσότερο. Ίσως αυτό να εξηγεί τη διαφορά;



Looking at how much knitting I still have left, I'm trying to comfort myself with the following things:

a. I have three balls of this yarn. When it's gone, I'm done knitting the shawl.
b. A tighter fabric means that this shawl will last longer.
c. It will be warmer than the pink one.

The pictures still make feel dizzy though!



Κοιτάζοντας πόσο πλέξιμο έχω ακόμα, προσπαθώ να βρω παρηγοριά με τις εξής σκέψεις:

α. Έχω τρεις μπάλες νήμα. Όταν τελειώσει, τελειώνει και το σάλι.
β. Το πιο σφιχτό ύφασμα σημαίνει ότι το μπλε σάλι θα αντέξει περισσότερο.
γ. Θα είναι πιο ζεστό από το ροζ.

Παρ'όλα αυτά, ζαλίζομαι λίγο όταν κοιτάζω αυτές τις φωτογραφίες!
