Packing

I'm getting ready for my trip to Athens and even though I swore I wouldn't leave things to do at the last minute, I still have a lot of things to do. This is my first trip as a serious knitter and I have a brand new skein of sock yarn and new needles all ready to go. But I want to take another project along, just in case I finish the socks. I thought mittens would be a good idea, small like socks and easy to carry. However, the mittens that I bought yarn for have charts and require more concentration than a simple st st sock.

So, maybe another pair of socks? I could take my current sock in progress, but then that wouldn't be a whole new project, because I've already knit almost half of the first sock already. Although, three and a half socks in ten days? That's one sock every three days. I can't knit that fast and I'll be doing other things too!

I hate packing this time of year. The weather is unpredictable, it's still quite warm, but it could rain too. It's not really the right time of year for summer clothes but when it's sunny, it doesn't feel right to wear fall clothes either. I'm confused and I have to pack and I'm worried that the clothes I just washed won't be dry in time.

How did this happen? What did I do yesterday instead of laundry? Well... I started knitting a Vinterblomster mitten instead. I modified it a bit, instead of garter stitch I made a little hem at the cuff. I think I like it. I didn't have time for pictures, I'll post some when I get back.

I got a new mobile internet usb thingy and I just tried it out - it works great! Next blog post will be from Athens!

Finally knitting again

Hello everyone! I have wonderful news: I am finally able to knit again. I'm so happy! I'm a knitter again. I started a sock, the small needles and thin yarn seem to be easier to work with now and don't hurt at all. I really love this sock already, it's so pretty!

I'm also really excited because I'm going to Athens this week and I'm going to meet some of my online knitting friends! I can't wait to meet Maria, we've been talking online for months.

Some exciting news for greek knitters and knitters living in Greece: Maria started a greek group on Ravelry and I think that's just an amazing idea! There are so few resources in greek, nobody seems to know what the individual stitch patterns are called, so hopefully we can all help each other.

I also started a group on Ravelry called Thessaloniki Knitting and Crochet. I'm trying to start a knitting group in Thessaloniki, I would really love to have friends to knit with! If you are in Thessaloniki and you are interested, you are welcome to join the ravelry group and the actual knitting group. And if you aren't a member of Ravelry yet, you really should join. It's such an amazing site, a knitter's dream website! If however you are interested in the group, but aren't a member of Ravelry, you can send me an email: alexandraknits [at] gmail.com

I'll put a link to the group on the sidebar of my blog too.

Apart from all this news about greek knitting, there are many new exciting patterns up on the internet.

The new Knitty came out and the patterns are truly beautiful! I usually don't like everything in an issue but this time I really do.

And the new issue of Petite Purls came out. This is a lovely online magazine with free patterns for children. The new issue is very cute and I absolutely love the Ladybug! If you have little ones to knit for, Petite Purls has some great patterns.

Also, another knitting podcast. It's not new, but I just listened to the first episode a few days ago after reading Caffeine Girl's recommendation. The podcast is called Never Not Knitting and it's as lovely as Alana's blog and beautiful patterns. I can't wait to listen to all the episodes!

Finally, two pictures of the sea that I took this morning!

Το podcast λέγεται Never Not Knitting και είναι υπέροχο, όπως το blog και τα σχέδια της Alana.

Greek coffee and estonian yarn

Hi! I hope you are all having a great week with lots of wonderful knitting time!

I have some great pictures that I've wanted to show you for almost two weeks now, but I've just been so busy.

I went out with my friend L. for a coffee and we went to a place we've found that is absolutely perfect: it's nice, quiet, has a great view of the sea and it's knitter friendly too! It's right next to Aristotelous square, which is probably one of the most well known streets in Thessaloniki. We love it!

What, you might be wondering, is the "greek" coffee from the title? The wonderful frappé of course! Not only is it a greek invention, it was made for the first time in Thessaloniki, at the 1957 International Trade Fair. How could we drink anything else?

Speaking of the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair, it takes place here every year in September. It just ended on Sunday and finally the city is back to normal. There's always so much traffic during the Fair. I remember when I was little, my parents would take me and it was always so exciting. They had many things for children and going really was a family event. It's more businesslike now, more serious but still very interesting and definitely worth a visit.

Anyway, back to drinking ice cold coffee, looking at the sea and yarn! L. recently went to Estonia and she brought me this amazing yarn. From Estonia, made from estonian sheep! I don't why this is so exciting for me but I hope you can understand!

And it's so pretty! I love pink and this has every shade of pink you can imagine in it! It's perfect! The colors were hard to capture, it really is even prettier than it looks!

290 gr of wool The weight is something between a fingering and a sport weight, it's actually kind of how I imagine shetland wool is.

Here are some more pictures of Aristotelous street. I love the old buildings!

Just before summer ends

I just have to post some pictures! I didn't go on vacation this year; I've been working really hard to renovate two rooms and it's a lot of work! More about that tomorrow... But I really want to post some vacation pictures, so here they are anyway!

A few years ago I went to Ios with my best friend. Ios is a small island in the Aegean sea and is the perfect party island for students. There are always a lot of tourists there! But it's a very pretty island too, all of them are.

And a greek island cat!
