My first knitting project was a simple, garter stitch scarf. It has increases, decreases, yarn overs and different tensions. That was surprising because they all happened by accident. I could have ripped them out and done that part again. The thought, though, of destroying those stitches that had taken me so long to make (my stitches!) was unbearable.
Now, a year later, I have knit hats, gloves, a lace scarf (with the holes in the right places), a sweater and I have things in progress which include: intarsia, stranded knitting with cotton and three colors in one row (all Kaffe Fassett designs). Actually, that is why I learned how to knit; to be able to make all the beautiful sweaters and jackets and shawls in Glorious Knits.
I have knit an entire vest three times and I have frogged it three times (my stitches! - that feeling will never change). One of these days I have to rip out the whole yoke of a raglan sweater, because I didn't follow any pattern but just made it up as I went along. Since it is my first raglan, that probably wasn't a good idea. The body and sleeves fit me perfectly, though, and that is amazing.
I met wonderful people on Ravelry and I discovered many beautiful knitting blogs. Knitting is more than just a hobby, it's a whole new world and there are so many things I can't wait to learn!
