Lace and stripes

I've been casting on new projects like crazy. I started a scarf recently and I worked on it a lot this weekend. The yarn is the lovely Madelinetosh Tosh DK in Rosewood and Posy. The lace edging is from the book "Knitted Lace of Estonia" by Nancy Bush.

I cast on 53 stitches - I got 4 repeats of the lace pattern and it was an odd number, which I wanted for the stripe section. I used the cast on method described in the book and then knit two rows. The lace edging is from the pattern "Lily of the Valley Scarf".

Then, I knit rows 1-14 of the chart and after that, I knit two rows in stockinette stitch. I knit the second edging as well, it's on a different needle and I'll use kitchener stitch to join it to the scarf when it's done. After knitting the edgings, I switched to the pink yarn and started a simple textured stripe pattern.

Every color has four rows. On an odd number of stitches:

Row 1 (RS): K1, P1, K1, P1… K1
Row 2: K1, P1, K1, P1… K1 (same as Row 1)
Row 3: K
Row 4: K1, P1, K1, P1… K1 (same as Row 1)

I twisted the two strands of yarn together every two rows; at every color change and in between color changes.

And I've been knitting those four rows for days! The scarf is getting longer, I can sort of wrap it around my neck now. I had two skeins of each color, I don't think I'll use it all, my guess now is that I'll need a little more than half of the second skein in each color. However, I'm not sure yet how long I want to make the scarf. I'm really enjoying this project and I love the colors!

Η δαντέλα είναι από το το σχέδιο "Lily of the Valley Scarf".

  1. Fabulous. I wish I had a limitless supply of madeleinetosh. I see it on blogs and am filled with envy - there's nothing quite like it.

Is your red yarn here yet? I'm pretty much ready to go :)
