Hexagon madness

I've been making little hexagons for my Beekeeper's Quilt blanket. Lots and lots of little hexagons. I must have at least 50 by now. After taking a good look at my stash, I realized I have lots of yarn in similar colors. So, I decided to use a couple of full skeins for this project and I found some that were perfect.

The Beekeeper's Quilt

This is my list for choosing the yarn:

1. Superwash yarn - I will not wash this blanket (or any blanket!) in anything other than my washing machine.

2. Yarn that doesn't have nylon or is too delicate for socks.

3. Yarn in colors that are similar to other yarns I have that are not superwash. Shawls need to be blocked anyway, so I'll use non-superwash yarn for those.

After going through the list, I found exactly what I was looking for. The colors go well together. Light and dark semi-solids for the background with bright coral pinks, yellow and turquoise. I love this color combination.

But then I realized that most of my leftover yarn didn't match. And I have plenty of yarn for the blanket anyway. I started looking at darker colors. Dark red, navy blue, green.. And fuschia and orange and yellow. And stripey sock yarn!

Yes... I'm making two blankets.

Ναι...

  1. You made a very good job matching those colors. A blanket is such a good project for using up the leftover yarns. I will make 1-2 in the future, when I "collect" enough leftover (that can't be used for anything else) to knit a really big cozy blanket.

  11. I LOVE your color choices for both light and dark blankets. I am especially drawn to the light version. I hope that you won't mind if I copy since there are quite a few Claudia Handpainted yarns in my stash. Your hexagons are so pretty!
