More inspiration

I'm feeling very creative and there are so many new beautiful patterns and projects in books and online. Here are some of my favorite things...

From the Purl Bee - a new tutorial to make a very cute fabric necklace. I wish I knew how to use a sewing machine. I have a few little pieces of fabric that would work and I hope I'll be able to sew it by hand. Doesn't it look like the perfect thing to wear with a white T-shirt and jeans?

The Crow Waltz Shawl and the Rectangular Crow Waltz Shawl, both by Juju Vail. They are available for free from the Loop Knit Lounge. They look so pretty in the Old Maiden Aunt yarn, I'm once again wishing I wasn't allergic to alpaca. There are so many nice yarns though, I'm sure I'll find something to use ;)

For a more summery shawl, I love the Maia Shoulderette by Rosemary Hill. I have some handpainted yarns that would look lovely in this pattern. I really like the leaf pattern that goes in many directions - it's something different that really makes it stand out. One more thing to my Ravelry queue!

Another summer project I want to knit is the Watershed cardigan by Amy Swenson. I would like to make it in mercerized cotton; I think it would look lovely in a bright color or light gray.

A very cute book filled with adorable little projects - Whip Up Mini Quilts. Yes, I don't sew and yes, I've ordered the book. I first saw it on Moonstitches' blog, the leaf quilt on the cover is her design. Everything in the book looked so pretty and I couldn't resist! Even if I don't make anything from it soon, it will be wonderful for ideas and inspiration.

I'm also looking forward to getting the new Rowan magazine that just came out. I absolutely love the colorwork patterns, like the one on the cover.

And... Ysolda Teague posted an interview she did for Let's Knit2gether on her blog . It's fun and interesting; she shows many of her designs, including some of the patterns that will be in her new book. The new patterns look great, you can also see two of them in this post. Her designs really look good on everyone and I think it's great that she has so many sizes in her patterns.

I wish I had a hundred hours every day for knitting and sewing and making things!

Παλιά ρούχα που θα κόψω για να φτιάξω ένα κολιέ. Κρατάω πράγματα αν είναι βαμβακερό και καλό το ύφασμα με όμορφα σχέδια (από πάνω: ένα κομμάτι από καλοκαιρινό μπλουζάκι, ένα πουκάμισο και μια φούστα).


Ακόμα περισσότερη έμπνευση

Νιώθω πολύ δημιουργική αυτές τις μέρες και υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά καινούρια σχέδια και άλλες καλλιτεχνικές ιδέες. Σκέφτηκα να μοιραστώ μερικά από τα αγαπημένα μου μαζί σας.

Από το Purl Bee βρήκα αυτές τις οδηγίες βήμα βήμα για την κατασκευή ενός πολύ όμορφου υφασμάτινου κολιέ. Μακάρι να ήξερα να ράβω σε ραπτομηχανή. Έχω μερικά υφάσματα που νομίζω ότι ταιριάζουν και ελπίζω να μπορέσω να το ράψω στο χέρι. Δεν θα δείχνει τέλειο με ένα άσπρο μπλουζάκι και τζιν;

Δύο πανέμορφα σχέδια, για σάλι και κασκόλ. Λέγονται Crow Waltz Shawl και Rectangular Crow Waltz Shawl. Και τα δύο είναι σχεδιασμένα από την Juju Vail. Είναι δωρέαν, στην ιστοσελίδα Loop Knit Lounge. Είναι τόσο όμορφα με το νήμα που διάλεξε η σχεδιάστρια, το Old Maiden Aunt και για μια ακόμα φορά εύχομαι να ήμουν αλλεργική στο alpaca. Υπάρχουν πολλά όμορφα νήματα όμως, είμαι σίγουρη ότι θα βρω κάτι να χρησιμοποιήσω ;)

Για πιο καλοκαιρινό σάλι, λατρεύω το Maia Shoulderette της Rosemary Hill. Έχω μερικά νήματα βαμμένα στο χέρι που θα δείξουν πολύ όμορφα με αυτό το σχέδιο. Μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ το σχέδιο με τα φύλλα που απλώνεται σε πολλές κατευθύνσεις. Είναι κάτι διαφορετικό και πραγματικά ξεχωρίζει. Οπότε ένα ακόμα πράγμα στη λίστα με τα πλεκτά που θέλω να φτιάξω!

Άλλο καλοκαιρινό πλεκτό που θέλω είναι το ζακετάκι Watershed της Amy Swenson. Θέλω να το φτιάξω σε γυαλιστερό βαμβάκι - σε κάποιο έντονο χρώμα ή απαλό γκρι.

Ένα πολύ χαριτωμένο βιβλίο γεμάτο με αξιαγάπητες μικρές δημιουργίες - το Whip Up Mini Quilts. Ναι, είπα ότι δεν ξέρω να ράβω και ναι, το έχω παραγγείλει το βιβλίο. Το είδα πρώτη φορά στο blog Moonstitches. Το κουβερτάκι στο εξώφυλλο με τα φύλλα είναι δικό της σχέδιο. Όλα τα σχέδια είναι τόσο όμορφα που δεν μπορούσα να αντισταθώ! Ακόμα και αν δεν φτιάξω κάτι σύντομα, θα είναι τέλειο το βιβλίο για ιδέες και έμπνευση.

Ανυπομονώ να πάρω και το καινούριο περιοδικό Rowan που μόλις βγήκε. Λατρεύω τα πολύχρωμα σχέδια, όπως αυτό στο εξώφυλλο.

Και τέλος, η Ysolda Teague έχει μια συνέντευξή της στο Let's Knit2gether στο blog της. Είναι πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα συνέντευξη και δείχνει πολλά από τα σχέδιά της καθώς και μερικά από τα σχέδια που θα είναι στο καινούριο της βιβλίο. Τα νέα σχέδια δείχνουν υπέροχα, μπορείτε να δείτε δύο από αυτά εδώ. Τα σχέδιά της δείχνουν ωραία σε όλες όσες τα φοράνε και νομίζω ότι είναι φανταστικό που τα βγάζει πάντα σε πάρα πολλά μεγέθη.

Εύχομαι να είχα 100 ώρες κάθε μέρα για να πλέκω και να ράβω και να φτιάχνω πράγματα!

Comfort and inspiration

Thank you so much for your comments and advice for my poor shawl. I didn't frog it - I think the blocking will work for the top section, so I feel much better about that. The bottom though is so loose, I think it might be better to pick up stitches and knit that part again. It might be a little too big anyway, so maybe I'll knit 5-10 rows less than there are now. That's the good thing about shawls, they can be any size I want! ;)

Even though I'm mad at my shawl, I'm very happy I'm a knitter. My weekend wasn't the best - antibiotics, vitamins, tissues, lots of honey and tea... and knitting. Don't know how I managed to get sick in the summer, but I did :( And I'm so very happy I had my knitting. I didn't feel like doing anything much (still don't) but my Citron is easy, just back and forth, knit and purl, forever and ever because the rows are getting really really long now. And the shawl, which is getting bigger, was nice to have on my lap - warm and pretty and sooo soft.

I started the second ball of yarn at the beginning of the seventh repeat. Yesterday, I did the seventh ruffle. I'm rethinking my original plan though, three balls of this yarn is a lot of knitting and I don't know if I want the shawl that big either. I'm going for eight repeats now and when that's done I'll decide if I want to continue with the ruffles or do the edging.



Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ για τα σχόλια και τις συμβουλές για το καημένο σάλι μου. Δεν το ξήλωσα, νομίζω ότι με το πλύσιμο το πάνω μέρος θα στρώσει και νιώθω πολύ καλύτερα για αυτό. Το κάτω κομμάτι όμως είναι τόσο χαλαρό που νομίζω ότι θα είναι καλύτερα να το ξαναπλέξω. Ίσως είναι και λίγο πιο μεγάλο από όσο πρέπει, όποτε μπορεί να πλέξω 5-10 σειρές λιγότερες από όσες έχει τώρα. Αυτό είναι το καλό με αυτά τα πλεκτά, μπορώ να τα κάνω ό,τι μέγεθος θέλω!

Αν και είμαι θυμωμένη με το σάλι, χαίρομαι πάρα πολύ που είμαι πλέκτρια. Το σαββατόκυριακο δεν ήταν από τα καλύτερα που έχω περάσει - αντιβιοτικά, βιταμίνες, χαρτομάντηλα, μέλι και τσάι... Ναι, είμαι άρρωστη, αν και δεν ξέρω πώς το κατάφερα καλοκαιριάτικα. Δεν είχα όρεξη για τίποτα (ούτε και τώρα έχω) αλλά το σάλι Citron είναι εύκολο, απλές σειρές, πλέξιμο από την καλή και από την ανάποδη, για πάντα, γιατί οι σειρές είναι πολύ μεγάλες τώρα. Και το σάλι, που φυσικά μεγαλώνει συνεχώς, ήταν ωραίο να το έχω πάνω μου - είναι ζεστό, όμορφο και πολύ απαλό.

Ξεκίνησα την δεύτερη μπάλα μαλλί στην αρχή της έβδομης επανάληψης του σχεδίου. Χθες έκανα το έβδομο φρου φρου. Δεν είμαι σίγουρη για το αρχικό μου σχέδιο όμως, τρεις μπάλες από αυτό το νήμα είναι πάρα πολύ πλέξιμο και δεν ξέρω αν θέλω το σάλι τόσο μεγάλο. Έβαλα στόχο για οχτώ επαναλήψεις και όταν τις τελειώσω, θα αποφασίσω αν θέλω να συνεχίσω ή να προχωρήσω με το τελικό σχέδιο στην άκρη.



When I got tired of knitting, I spent some time looking through my three favorite knitting books. Glorious Knits, Glorious Color and Pattern Library, all by Kaffe Fassett. They are so beautiful; full of inspiration and beautiful patterns. Whenever I look at them, I end up with twenty ideas for sweaters and shawls and cardigans. I start looking at yarn, thinking of color combinations and planning one project after another.

I love them so much!  Τα λατρεύω!


There is a Kaffe Fassett pattern I've been thinking about for over a year and it will be one of my next projects. It's the Romeo and Juliet coat from Glorious Color. As much as I love the coat, I don't think I'll be able to wear it much. What I want is a Romeo and Juliet cardigan. I've finally found all the colors I want to use and I'm really excited about starting it soon. I'm going to use colors that are similar to the ones in the book - red, fuschia, purple, lilac...

It will be hard, I'll have to figure out how to place the color patterns and I might even design the basic shape for the cardigan myself, if I can't find something in the shape I want. I think it will be worth it though and if it works out the way I want, I'll make another one in a different color combination.

If you want to see the coat, you can look at the Coat Project blog. Two knitters are making Kaffe Fassett coats and writing to each other about the experience. It's really exciting to see the pieces come together and I'm sure both of them will be amazing!

Όταν κουράστηκα με το πλέξιμο, πέρασα αρκετό χρόνο ξεφυλλίζοντας τα τρία αγαπημένα μου βιβλία για το πλέξιμο - Glorious Knits, Glorious Color και Pattern Library - όλα από τον Kaffe Fassett. Είναι πανέμορφα, γέματα έμπνευση και όμορφα σχέδια. Όποτε τα κοιτάζω, καταλήγω να έχω είκοσι ιδέες για πουλόβερ, φουλάρια και ζακετάκια. Μετά, κοιτάζω για νήματα, σκέφτομαι συνδυασμούς χρωμάτων, σχεδιάζω το ένα πλεκτό μετά το άλλο.

Υπάρχει ένα σχέδιο του Kaffe Fassett που το σκέφτομαι πάνω από ένα χρόνο τώρα. Αποφάσισα να το πλέξω επιτέλους, σύντομα. Είναι το παλτό Romeo and Juliet από το βιβλίο Glorious Color. Όσο όμως λατρεύω το παλτό, νομίζω ότι δεν θα μπορέσω να το φορέσω πολύ. Αυτό που θέλω είναι ένα Romeo and Juliet ζακετάκι. Βρήκα επιτέλους όλα τα χρώματα που θέλω να χρησιμοποιήσω και είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένη που θα το ξεκινήσω. Θα χρησιμοποιήσω χρώματα παρόμοια με αυτά στο βιβλίο, κόκκινο, φουξ, μωβ, λιλά.

Θα είναι δύσκολο, θα πρέπει να δω πού ακριβώς θα βάλω τα χρωματιστά σχέδια και ίσως σχεδιάσω μόνη μου το βασικό σχήμα της ζακέτας, αν δεν μπορώ να βρω κάποιο έτοιμο σχέδιο έτσι ακριβώς όπως το θέλω. Νομίζω ότι αξίζει τον κόπο, και αν όλα πάνε καλά, θα φτιάξω και ένα δεύτερο, με άλλο συνδυασμό χρωμάτων.

There's something wrong with my shawl

Sometimes projects just don't work out. I have quite a few of those lying around. They're still on the needles and I'm still undecided about what to do with them. For some, it's been a few months. Others, I haven't worked on them for over a year. They all have something wrong with them.

It's time to take action! I'm tired of thinking about them, worrying about what to do with them and poking myself when I reach into a bag and discover one of them still on the needles!

Here's the first one... My Mara shawl. According to my project notes on Ravelry, I started it on July 22, 2009. Ooops... It's a lovely pattern. I like the yarn too, MeriSeta by BBB Filati. It's a lovely merino / silk blend and the color is very pretty.

In a very satisfying and quick motion, I pulled it off the needles. What a wonderful feeling!

What was wrong with it? Well, I really tried to work on it and I picked it up again several times. It seems that when I'm stressed I'm a tight knitter (or tighter anyway) and other times, my knitting is very loose.

Here is the result...



Καμιά φορά τα πλεκτά απλά δεν προχωράνε. Έχω αρκετά τέτοια διάσπαρτα σε όλο το σπίτι. Είναι ακόμα στις βελόνες και εγώ είμαι ακόμα αναποφάσιστη για το τί να κάνω. Κάποια κάθονται μερικούς μήνες. Άλλα έχω να τα πλέξω πάνω από ένα χρόνο. Όλα έχουν κάποιο πρόβλημα.

Είναι ώρα για δράση! Βαρέθηκα να τα σκέφτομαι, να αγχώνομαι για το τι να κάνω και να με τσιμπάνε όταν βάζω το χέρι μου σε μια σακούλα και ανακαλύπτω ένα από αυτά (είπαμε, είναι ακόμα με τις βελόνες!).

Εδώ είναι το πρώτο... Το σάλι Mara. Σύμφωνα με τις σημειώσεις μου στο Ravelry, το ξεκίνησα στις 22 Ιουλίου 2009. Χμμμ... Είναι υπέροχο σχέδιο. Μου αρέσει και το νήμα, MeriSeta από την εταιρία BBB Filati. Είναι φανταστικό, μαλλί merino με μετάξι και το χρώμα είναι πολύ όμορφο.

Οπότε ποιο είναι το πρόβλημα; Προσπάθησα πολύ να το τελειώσω και το έπιασα πολλές φορές. Φαίνεται ότι όταν έχω άγχος πλέκω πιο σφιχτά και άλλες φορές πλέκω πολύ χαλαρά. Το αποτέλεσμα φαίνεται στην φωτογραφία.



It was almost finished. It's amazing really how I tricked myself into working on it, over and over again, even though it was clear there was a problem. I love being in denial!

Can you see how the fabric isn't flat? That's because my gauge was so loose, there's a lot of extra fabric in that part. In a different pattern, that might work. With Mara, it doesn't. There's another loose part, at the top. This project is a disaster!

I've decided to look at all my unfinished projects and make a decision: keep and finish or frog and use the yarn for something else. Anyone want to join me? I know you have some of these too!

Είχα πλέξει σχεδόν ολόκληρο το σάλι. Είναι απίστευτο το πώς κατάφερα να κοροϊδέψω τον εαυτό μου να συνεχίσω το πλέξιμο, ξανά και ξανά, αν και ήξερα κατά βάθος ότι υπάρχει πρόβλημα. Μου αρέσει να αγνοώ προβλήματα!

Βλέπεται ότι το ύφασμα δεν είναι επίπεδο; Αυτό είναι επειδή έπλεκα πολύ χαλαρά, έχει παραπάνω ύφασμα σε αυτά τα σημεία. Με άλλο σχέδιο, ίσως και να μην ήταν πρόβλημα. Με το συγκεκριμένο όμως, δεν δείχνει ωραίο. Υπάρχει και άλλο χαλαρό σημείο, επάνω. Αυτό το πλεκτό είναι πραγματικά καταστροφή!

Αποφάσισα να κοιτάξω και τα άλλα πλεκτά μου και να πάρω μια απόφαση: να τα κρατήσω και να τα τελειώσω ή να τα ξηλώσω και να χρησιμοποιήσω το νήμα για κάτι άλλο. Θέλετε να συμμετέχετε και εσείς; Είμαι σίγουρη ότι έχετε τέτοια πλεκτά!
