Striped T-shirt // πουλόβερ με ρίγες

This topic was a little difficult for me, because there are so many knitters and designers whose work I admire. I finally decided to write about Kaffe Fassett, because it was his amazing patterns that made me want to learn how to knit. Years ago, I found his wonderful book Glorious Knits at my mother's house and I couldn't stop looking at it. I decided to learn how to knit, so that I could try to make all the beautiful things in the book.

Since then, I've gotten two more of his books and they are a constant source of inspiration. He is an amazing artist and I've learned so much about color. I love to read his books over and over again and look at all the wonderful pictures.



Striped shawl // σάλι με ρίγες

Over the years, I've learned other knitting techniques, but I always go back to working with color. And I think that Kaffe Fassett is the designer whose patterns I've knit the most. Some of my first projects were a striped shawl which was a gift for a friend of mine and a striped T-shirt which always makes me smile when I wear it.

I've also experimented with some of his designs and while I didn't finish those projects, I do want to knit those patterns again sometime. The damask flower is one of my favorites and the carpet pattern is a fantastic mix of intarsia and stripes.

The Kaffe Fassett pattern I knit and that I'm most proud of is the Persian Poppies vest I made for my mother last year. Three months of knitting, more than twenty colors and a million ends but it was worth it. I think it's the best thing I've ever knit. You can read more about it here and here.

There are times when I just want to knit something simple but when I feel creative, I always turn to Kaffe Fassett's patterns. It's so much fun to play with all the colors and the finished project is always unique and beautiful.

Όσο περνάνε τα χρόνια, έχω μάθει και άλλες τεχνικές στο πλέξιμο, αλλά πάντα γυρνάω στα χρώματα. Και νομίζω ότι ο Kaffe Fassett είναι ο σχεδιαστής του οποίου τα σχέδια έχω πλέξει πιο πολύ. Μερικά από τα πρώτα μου πλεκτά ήταν ένα σάλι με ρίγες, δώρο για μια φίλη μου και ένα πουλόβερ με ρίγες που με κάνει να χαμογελάω κάθε φορά που το φοράω.

Έχω επίσης πειραματιστεί με μερικά από τα σχέδιά του και παρόλο που δεν τελείωσα ποτέ εκείνα τα πλεκτά, θέλω να τα πλέξω ξανά κάποια στιγμή. Το λουλούδι damask είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου σχέδια και το σχέδιο carpet είναι ένας απίθανος συνδυασμός από ρίγες και της τεχνικής intarsia (όπου το χρώμα δεν χρησιμοποιείται σε όλη τη σειρά, αλλά μόνο σε συγκεκριμένο μέρος.)

Το σχέδιο του Kaffe Fassett που έπλεξα και αυτό για το οποίο είμαι περήφανη είναι το γιλέκο Persian Poppies που έφτιαξα πέρυσι για τη μητέρα μου. I'm also a big fan of the yarns he designed for Regia and I've used his colors many times! I think they are perfect for socks and shawls and I still have some that I'm going to use for a striped cardigan.

Knitting for warm weather: shawls

I've been trying to plan my current and future knitting projects and I have a small problem. The things I want to make are not always the things I can wear in Greece. I know that there are a lot of patterns out there that I want to knit because I like the design, the use of color or the shape. But, I also want a few things that will be useful as well as pretty or just fun to knit.

Since I can't be the only knitter with this problem, I'll do a series of blog posts with some patterns that I think are greek summer friendly. Shawls and scarves have always been one of my favorite accessories, so I'll write about them first. I love how they can add color to an outfit and they're useful on chilly evenings. Knitting them in wool though means that they're pretty warm, even when I use thin yarns. I've been looking at patterns that have very open lace stitches and I'm pleased that there are quite a few available. The patterns listed in this post are all free; I'll do a separate post for some other patterns that are available for purchase.

The first pattern in my queue is the Foreign Correspondent's Scarf by Lexy Lu - I love the contrast of the lace with the solid stripes. I'll definitely knit this soon.

Another scarf I've wanted to knit for a long time is the Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty (Ravelry) by Veronik Avery. The lace pattern is so pretty.

The One Row Lace Scarf by Turvid is simple but lovely. It looks great in solid and variegated yarns.

The Jeweled Cowl by Sachiko Uemura is a very interesting design. It combines lace with stockinette stitch and beads to create a very pretty cowl.

Wisp from Knitty (Ravelry) by Cheryl Niameth, is another lovely pattern that also combines lace and solid stripes. 

A Purl Soho pattern, the Color Change Scarf (Ravelry) looks very light. It has just enough yarn to hold the whole thing together.

Most of these patterns would also look nice as a shawl and it's so easy to make a scarf wider. I'm always amazed by knitting, these patterns prove that even the most simple mesh pattern can be used in so many ways!



Προσπαθώ να προγραμματίσω τα πλεκτά μου, αυτά που πλέκω τώρα και αυτά που θέλω να ξεκινήσω αργότερα, και έχω ένα μικρό πρόβλημα. Τα πράγματα που θέλω να φτιάξω δεν είναι πάντα αυτά που μπορώ να φορέσω, λόγω του καιρού. Ξέρω ότι υπάρχουν πολλά σχέδια που θέλω να πλέξω επειδή μου αρέσει το σχέδιο, ο συνδυασμός χρωμάτων ή το σχήμα. Όμως, θέλω και μερικά πλεκτά που ξέρω ότι θα είναι χρήσιμα και όχι μόνο όμορφα ή διασκεδαστικά όταν το πλέκω.

Επειδή σίγουρα δεν είμαι η μόνη με αυτό το πρόβλημα, σκέφτηκα να κάνω μια σειρά από αναρτήσεις με μερικά σχέδια που νομίζω ότι μπορούν να φορεθούν και το καλοκαίρι. Τα κασκόλ και τα φουλάρια ήταν πάντα ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου αξεσουάρ, οπότε θα ξεκινήσω με αυτά. Λατρεύω πώς μπορούν να δώσουν χρώμα και είναι χρήσιμα όταν έχει δροσιά το βράδυ. Όμως, το να τα πλέκω με μαλλί σημαίνει ότι είναι αρκετά ζεστά, ακόμα και όταν χρησιμοποιώ λεπτά νήματα. Έτσι, έψαξα για σχέδια που έχουν πολύ ανοιχτή δαντέλα. Τα σχέδια σε αυτή την ανάρτηση είναι όλα δωρεάν, θα γράψω ξεχωριστά για τα σχέδια που πωλούνται.

Το πρώτο σχέδιο είναι το κασκόλ Foreign Correspondent's Scarf της Lexy Lu - λατρεύω την αντίθεση της δαντέλας με τις πιο σκούρες ρίγες. Σίγουρα θα το πλέξω σύντομα.

Ένα άλλο κασκόλ που θέλω να πλέξω εδώ και πολύ καιρό είναι το Lace Ribbon Scarf από το Knitty (Ravelry) της Veronik Avery. Η δαντέλα είναι τόσο όμορφη.

The most wonderful yarn I've ever seen

My boyfriend got me an amazing present; a 1 kg cone of yarn! Really, this is the most impressive thing ever. I had shown him the link when I got the tweed yarn for my Brynja cardigan. I said that I would love to try the thinner version of the aran tweed yarn and that it would be perfect for cardigans or shawls. However, given the size of my stash, I said that it would have to wait. And then he got it for me! The cone is huge, all that yarn, so many possibilities.



I've been thinking for weeks, trying to find the perfect project for this perfect yarn. I knit a swatch and washed it, the yarn really looks great. I think that the yarn still has the spinning oil on it, the washed swatch is softer and puffier. I would call this a heavy fingering weight yarn, but it's definitely thicker than sock yarn. I haven't been able to find it in the Ravelry database, the shop calls it Kilcarra Studio Donegal Soft Merino Tweed.



Πήρα το πιο υπέροχο δώρο από τον φίλο μου! Ένας κώνος νήμα, 1 κιλό! Είναι πραγματικά το πιο εντυπωσιακό πράγμα που έχω δει. Νομίζω ότι έχει ακόμα το λάδι που χρησιμοποιούν για την επεξεργασία, γιατί μετά το πλύσιμο είναι πολύ πιο απαλό και αφράτο. Θα έλεγα ότι είναι λίγο πιο χοντρό από νήμα για κάλτσες. So, I've been looking at patterns, trying to find the first thing I'll knit with this yarn. Based on the amount, I would guess that I can probably get two cardigans out of this and then, maybe a shawl too. But, I'd like to start out with the biggest project first, to make sure I have enough. I really love the Dahlia Cardigan by Heather Zoppetti from the Fall 2011 issue of Interweave Knits and thought it would be a good project for this lovely yarn. There is one problem though; I'm not in love with the front of the cardigan. All that extra fabric just hanging there - that's more knitting and more yarn for something that I don't think will good on me.

A few knitters on Ravelry have modified Dahlia and used the lace pattern on the back with a different shape for the front. The perfect solution! And then, looking at my queue, I had an idea. I've been planning to knit the Hay cardigan by Veera Välimäki for a long time. Why not combine the two patterns? The lace from Dahlia inserted into the Hay cardigan. Also, both patterns have top down sleeves. That means that I can keep the lace pattern on the sleeves too.

I've thought of a way to do it, I'll have to study the patterns, stitch numbers, my gauge, etc. but I think it will work. I'm really looking forward to this, although I'd like to knit my Brynja cardigan first - the wool is thick and warm and I won't be able to wear it this year if I don't finish it soon.

After the Dahlia/Hay cardigan, I'm thinking about a Whisper cardigan (pattern by Hannah Fettig) with this yarn. It certainly is a color that will go with a lot of my clothes! And if I have enough left over, I'll probably also knit another Ishbel shawl. I do love the idea of lace with tweed.



Κοιτούσα σχέδια για να βρω το πρώτο πράγμα που θα πλέξω με το νήμα. Με βάση την ποσότητα που έχω, νομίζω ότι μπορώ να πλέξω δύο ζακετάκια και μετά, ίσως και ένα σάλι. Αλλά, θέλω να ξεκινήσω πρώτα με το μεγαλύτερο πλεκτό, για να είμαι σίγουρη ότι θα μου φτάσει. Θέλω εδώ και καιρό να πλέξω το ζακετάκι Hay cardigan της Veera Välimäki. Γιατί να μην συνδυάσω τα δύο σχέδια; Η δαντέλα από το Dahlia στο άλλο ζακετάκι. Το νήμα είναι πολύ χοντρό και ζεστό και δεν θα μπορέσω να το φορέσω φέτος αν δεν το τελειώσω γρήγορα.

Μετά το τροποποιημένο Dahlia, σκέφτομαι να πλέξω και ένα ζακετάκι Whisper (σχέδιο της Hannah Fettig) με το νήμα. Είναι σίγουρα χρώμα που ταιριάζει με πολλά από τα ρούχα μου. Και αν μου περισσέψει αρκετό, μάλλον θα πλέξω ένα ακόμα σάλι Ishbel. Λατρεύω το συνδυασμό δαντέλας με tweed.

Complex and simple knitting

I've been very busy this week and I'm so looking forward to some weekend knitting! I haven't made much knitting progress with Que Sera, but I have been working on the lace for the sleeves. Looking at project pictures on Ravelry, the sleeves have a wide section of stockinette stitch, on both sides of the seam. I created a chart to knit the sleeves in the round and keep the lace pattern on all the stitches, even with the stitch increases. I'm really excited to see if it will work out!

I also feel like a bit of easy knitting and I've found a great project! I have lots of mini skeins of sock yarn and I was thinking about making a shawl with stripes. A few days later, I saw the perfect pattern; Whose Shawl do you think it is? by Carol Sunday (Ravelry) available for free from Sunday Knits. They also have kits if you want to make one like the picture. I was very tempted to order one, unfortunately some of the yarn has cashmere and I'm allergic to that fiber.

The pattern is also a great project for leftover yarn and it looks so pretty too! It looks very light and I think it would be perfect for a chilly summer evening. I think this shawl will be perfect when I want to take a break from the lace chart!

Είχα πάρα πολλές δουλειές αυτή την εβδομάδα και ανυπομονώ να πλέξω το σαββατοκύριακο! Δεν έχω πλέξει πολύ το ζακετάκι Que Sera αλλά ασχολήθηκα αρκετά με τη δαντέλα στα μανίκια. Κοιτάζοντας πλεκτά από αυτό το σχέδιο στο Ravelry, πρόσεξα ότι τα μανίκια έχουν μια φαρδιά λωρίδα χωρίς δαντέλα, και από τις δύο μεριές της ραφής. Τροποποίησα το σχέδιο της δαντέλας ώστε να συνεχίζεται η δαντέλα γύρω γύρω, ακόμα και στα σημεία όπου αυξάνονται οι πόντοι, πλέκοντας τα μανίκια κυκλικά. Ανυπομονώ να το δοκιμάσω!

Θέλω όμως επίσης και κάτι πιο απλό και βρήκα το τέλειο σχέδιο! Έχω πολλές μικρές μπάλες από νήματα για κάλτσες και σκεφτόμουν ότι ήθελα ένα ριγέ σάλι. Μετά από λίγες μέρες, βρήκα το τέλειο σχέδιο! Λέγεται Whose Shawl do you think it is? της Carol Sunday (Ravelry) και είναι διαθέσιμο δωρεάν από το Sunday Knits. Πουλάνε επίσης και τα νήματα όλα μαζί, αν θέλετε να φτιάξετε ένα σαν τη φωτογραφία. Ήθελα πολύ να πάρω, αλλά ένα από τα νήματα έχει κασμίρι και έχω αλλεργία δυστυχώς.

Το σχέδιο είναι επίσης τέλειο για μικρές μπαλίτσες από νήματα που έχουν περισσέψει από άλλα πλεκτά και είναι τόσο όμορφο! Φαίνεται πολύ ελαφρύ και νομίζω θα είναι τέλειο για μια δροσερή νύχτα του καλοκαιριού. Νομίζω ότι αυτό το σάλι θα είναι τέλειο όταν κουραστώ από τη δαντέλα!

Sometimes it's hard to knit with pretty yarn

I recently got some skeins of Malabrigo Rios in the amazing Arco Iris color. When I got them, my first thought was to keep them and pet them and admire them but I'm trying to find a pattern for them.

I've noticed that I have some yarn that is lovely and yet, it's been in my stash for a very long time. Whenever I choose a new project, I look at that yarn and think "What if that isn't the best pattern for it?" or "What if a new pattern comes out in a few days that would be just perfect?" The result of this indecision is that those skeins never get chosen and they probably think I don't love them.

I don't want that to happen to this yarn as well, so I've decided it will be my next big project after Que Sera. I want to make a cardigan with them and I think a simple pattern would work best, to show off the colors. So far, I've found two patterns I like:

The first is the Tappan Zee Cardigan (Ravelry) by Amy King from Knitty. It's designed for handspun yarn and I've seen some lovely colorful versions on Ravelry. I would make it with longer sleeves, maybe 3/4 length and buttons all the way down.

The second pattern I'm thinking of is the Garter Yoke Cardigan (Ravelry) by Melissa LaBarre from Knit.1 Fall/Winter 2008 (also available from the Vogue Knitting website). 

I would love to hear your suggestions - any ideas about what to knit with this yarn?

Ή μπορεί σε μερικές μέρες να βγει ένα καινούριο σχέδιο, που θα ταιριάζει τέλεια με το νήμα. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι ότι κρατάω αυτά τα νήματα και μάλλον θα σκέφτονται ότι δεν τα αγαπάω.

Δεν θέλω να συμβεί το ίδιο και αυτή τη φορά οπότε αποφάσισα ότι θα είναι το επόμενο μεγάλο πλεκτό, μετά το Que Sera που πλέκω τώρα. Θέλω να φτιάξω ζακετάκι και νομίζω ότι ένα απλό σχέδιο θα είναι καλύτερο, για να φαίνονται τα χρώματα. Μέχρι τώρα, έχω βρει δύο σχέδια που μου αρέσουν:

A lovely surprise

I just got back from the post office with a wonderful package! I thought it was a book I had ordered for my father, but it turned out to be for me :) In January, I wrote about all the sock yarn I have - enough for at least 100 pairs of socks! I think this book will help me with the sock yarn stash...

It's "Around the World in Knitted Socks" by Stephanie van der Linden (Ravelry) and I've wanted it for a long time. It has beautiful patterns, inspired by knitting traditions from all over the world. Lace, embroidery, stranded knitting, cables - it has everything! I'm really excited -  I think I'll go look at my sock yarn now and dream about all the lovely socks I'll be knitting :)



Μόλις γύρισα από το ταχυδρομείο με ένα τέλειο δέμα! Νόμιζα ότι ήταν ένα βιβλίο που είχα πάρει για τον πατέρα μου αλλά τελικά είναι ένα βιβλίο για μένα! Τον Ιανουάριο είχα γράψει για όλα τα νήματα για κάλτσες που έχω - αρκετό για πάνω από 100 ζευγάρια! Νομίζω ότι αυτό το βιβλίο θα με βοηθήσει λίγο...

Το βιβλίο είναι το "Around the World in Knitted Socks" (ο γύρος του κόσμου σε πλεκτές κάλτσες) της Stephanie van der Linden (Ravelry) και το ήθελα πολύ καιρό. Έχει πανέμορφα σχέδια, εμπνευσμένα από παραδοσιακά πλεκτά από όλο τον κόσμο. Δαντέλα, κεντήματα, ζακάρ, πλεξούδες - τα έχει όλα! Είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένη - νομίζω ότι θα πάω να κοιτάξω τα νήματά μου τώρα και θα σκέφτομαι όλα τις υπέροχες κάλτσες που θα φτιάξω!

New Yarn, Part 2

This month has been a Yarn Diet Disaster! But I really didn't have a lot of worsted weight yarn and the projects I have planned will definitely be faster than some of the things I've made lately. Here's the rest of the yarn I got :)

Two skeins Madelinetosh Vintage in Mansfield Garden Party to make a Nouveau Bohemia hat (Ravelry) and matching gloves. I love this design by Lina (the link is to her new address, she recently moved her blog). The hat has such a pretty combination of cables and lace. And it looks great in solid and variegated yarns. I'm really looking forward to knitting this pattern!



Αυτός ο μήνας ήταν καταστροφή για τη δίαιτα! Αλλά πραγματικά δεν είχα πολλά πιο χοντρά νήματα και τα πλεκτά που θα φτιάξω θα είναι σίγουρα πιο γρήγορα από πολλά πράγματα που έχω φτιάξει τον τελευταίο καιρό. Σας παρουσιάζω λοιπόν τα υπόλοιπα νήματα που πήρα :)

Δύο Madelinetosh Vintage στο χρώμα Mansfield Garden Party (στη φωτογραφία επάνω) για να φτιάξω ένα καπέλο Nouveau Bohemia (Ravelry) και ασορτί γαντάκια. Λατρεύω αυτό το σχέδιο από τη Lina (άλλαξε πρόσφατα τη διεύθυνση στο blog της, αυτή είναι η καινούρια). Το καπέλο είναι πανέμορφος συνδυασμός από πλεξούδες και δαντέλα. Και δείχνει όμορφο και με μονόχρωμο και με πολύχρωμο νήμα. Ανυπομονώ να το ξεκινήσω!

Madelinetosh Lace in Logwood... This is for a lace cardigan I'm thinking of making - no pattern, just my own design :) I wasn't sure if one skein would be enough, so I got two, just to be sure.

Το μωβ νήμα επάνω είναι για ένα ζακετάκι με δαντέλα που σκέφτομαι να φτιάξω - όχι από κάποιο έτοιμο σχέδιο, αλλά κάτι που σκέφτομαι εγώ να σχεδιάσω! Δεν ήμουν σίγουρη αν θα μου έφτανε το ένα, οπότε πήρα δύο για να είμαι σίγουρη.

New Yarn, Part 1

The yarn diet isn't going very well... In the past weeks, I somehow bought quite a bit of yarn. Some of it was just to make me feel better - I've been frustrated with my computer and I have a cold that just won't go away. The good thing is that I do have projects in mind for most of the yarn. And a lot of it is for hats! There are so many great hat patterns I want to knit. I also really want something easy and fast. So many of the things I'm knitting take a long time; I've been using a lot of sock yarn and laceweight. I really want to make something that I can knit in a few days!

Yarn for warm, soft, pretty and fast hats.... I kept thinking Malabrigo Worsted! So I got some :)



Η δίαιτα νήματος δεν πάει πολύ καλά... Τις τελευταίες εβδομάδες κατάφερα κάπως να αγοράσω αρκετό. Κάποια ήταν για να νιώσω λίγο καλύτερα - έχω εκνευριστεί με τα προβλήματα του υπολογιστή και έχω ένα κρυολόγημα που δεν περνάει. Το καλό είναι ότι για τα περισσότερα έχω ήδη το σχέδιο που θέλω να φτιάξω. Και τα περισσότερα θα γίνουν σκουφάκια! Υπάρχουν πολλά υπέροχα σχέδια που θέλω να φτιάξω. Επίσης, θέλω ένα εύκολο και γρήγορο πλεκτό. Τα περισσότερα πλεκτά που έχω τώρα παίρνουν πολύ χρόνο και χρησιμοποιώ τον τελευταίο καιρό πολύ λεπτά νήματα. Θέλω να φτιάξω κάτι που θέλει μόνο μερικές μέρες!

Νήμα για ζεστά, απαλά, όμορφα και γρήγορα σκουφάκια.. Σκεφτόμουν συνέχεια το Malabrigo Worsted! Οπότε πήρα μερικά!

I've finally finished my Spring Forward socks and I'm waiting for a day with some sun to take pictures! Tomorrow, I have more new yarn to show you :) And I've already cast on for a hat - a Meret with the Tuareg blue!

Τελείωσα επιτέλους τις κάλτσες Spring Forward και περιμένω να έχει λίγο ήλιο για να βγάλω φωτογραφίες. Αύριο, έχω και άλλα νήματα να σας δείξω :) Και ήδη ξεκίνησα ένα καπέλο, το Meret με το μπλε Tuareg (το σκούρο στη φωτογραφία).

Winter Knitty

It's always so exciting when new patterns come out! The new issue of Knitty has some great accessories but my favorite pattern is Joanie by Martina Behm (Ravelry link). What a lovely sweater! It looks warm and comfy and cute!

Also from this issue, I like the Sweetheart socks pattern by Nikol Lohr (Ravelry link) and the Gweneira shawl pattern by Susanna IC (Ravelry link).

I think I'll be making the Sweetheart socks soon. I certainly have enough sock yarn!


Είναι πάντα ωραίο όταν βγαίνουν καινούρια σχέδια! Το νέο τεύχος από το δωρεάν online περιοδικό Knitty έχει μερικά ωραία αξεσουάρ αλλά το αγαπημένο μου σχέδιο είναι το Joanie της Martina Behm (το σχέδιο στο Ravelry). Τι υπέροχο πουλόβερ! Φαίνεται ζεστό και άνετο και χαριτωμένο!

Επίσης από αυτό το τεύχος, μου αρέσουν οι κάλτσες Sweetheart της Nikol Lohr (το σχέδιο στο Ravelry) και το σάλι Gweneira της Susanna IC (το σχέδιο στο Ravelry).

Νομίζω ότι θα πλέξω τις κάλτσες σύντομα. Έχω σίγουρα αρκετό νήμα για κάλτσες!

Pretty cardigans

I've been looking at cardigan patterns. I love knitting socks and shawls but I really want to knit something else for a change. I recently finished my Shalom cardigan (it took over a year!) and I love it; it's warm and soft and I feel so proud of myself when I wear it. So, I want more cardigans :)

Here are a few that I'd like to make soon....

Hay Cardigan by Veera Välimäki for Madelinetosh (Ravelry link). I think this is the perfect cardigan! It's cute, it has a nice shape and interesting details. It only uses a couple skeins of sock yarn and it looks like it would go with everything. I've got the yarn for this and I can't wait to cast on! I think I'll make it without the pocket though.

Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig (Ravelry link). Another gorgeous pattern from the designer of the very popular Whisper cardigan. Really looking forward to making this one and I think it will be a fast knit.

Hooray Cardigan also by Veera Välimäki. I love this shape, it's so beautiful. I don't know if I will knit this one, I generally don't wear sweaters with high necklines but I might be able to modify it a little - for now though, I just look at it on Ravelry :)

Aidez by Cirilia Rose (Ravelry link). Knit in bulky yarn, it probably knits up very fast. A pretty pattern and it also looks comfortable too.

Dark and Stormy by Thea Colman (Ravelry link). I love this pattern! It's so beautiful! I have the yarn for this one too and I think I'll make it a tiny bit longer.

Leaving by Anne Hanson (Ravelry link) from the new winter issue of Twist Collective. A gorgeous lace pattern - I love the sweater version of it as well.

That's a lot of knitting I have planned, but winter is only just starting! What's on your knitting wish list for the winter?

Όμορφα ζακετάκια

Κοιτάζω σχέδια για ζακετάκια. Λατρεύω τις κάλτσες και τα κασκόλ αλλά θέλω να πλέξω κάτι άλλο, για αλλαγή. Τελείωσα πρόσφατα το ζακετάκι Shalom (μου πήρε πάνω από ένα χρόνο!) και είναι τέλειο. Είναι υπέροχο, ζεστό και απαλό και νιώθω τόσο περήφανη όταν το φοράω. Οπότε θέλω και άλλα ζακετάκια!

Μερικά από τα σχέδια που θα ήθελα να φτιάξω σύντομα...

Hay Cardigan της Veera Välimäki για την εταιρία Madelinetosh (Ravelry). Νομίζω ότι αυτό είναι το τέλειο ζακετάκι! Είναι χαριτωμένο, έχει ωραίο σχήμα και ενδιαφέρουσες λεπτομέρειες. Χρησιμοποιεί μικρή σχετικά ποσότητα νήματος για κάλτσες και φαίνεται ότι θα ταιριάζει με όλα τα ρούχα μου. Ανυπομονώ πολύ να το ξεκινήσω. Νομίζω ότι θα το φτιάξω όμως χωρίς την τσέπη.

Effortless Cardigan της Hannah Fettig (Ravelry). Άλλο ένα υπέροχο σχέδιο από τη σχεδιάστρια του πολύ γνωστού Whisper Cardigan. Ανυπομονώ πολύ να το πλέξω και νομίζω ότι θα είναι σχετικά γρήγορο πλεκτό.

Hooray Cardigan επίσης της Veera Välimäki. Λατρεύω το σχήμα, είναι τόσο όμορφο. Δεν ξέρω αν θα το πλέξω αυτό, γενικά δεν φοράω μπλούζες και ζακέτες με τόσο ψηλό λαιμό, αλλά ίσως μπορώ να το τροποποιήσω λίγο. Προς το παρόν, το χαζεύω στο Ravelry!

Aidez της Cirilia Rose (Ravelry). Είναι με πολύ χοντρό νήμα και πιστεύω ότι θα είναι πολύ γρήγορο. Ένα πολύ όμορφο σχέδιο αλλά φαίνεται και πολύ άνετο.

Dark and Stormy της Thea Colman (Ravelry). Άλλο ένα σχέδιο που λατρεύω! Είναι πανέμορφο! Έχω το νήμα και για αυτό - νομίζω ότι θα το κάνω όμως ελάχιστα πιο μακρύ.

Leaving της Anne Hanson (Ravelry) από το καινούριο, χειμωνιάτικο τεύχος του Twist Collective. Πανέμορφο το σχέδιο της δαντέλας. Μου αρέσει και σαν πουλόβερ.

Πολλά πλεκτά είναι αλλά ο χειμώνας μόλις αρχίζει! Εσείς τι θέλετε να φτιάξετε φέτος το χειμώνα;

More inspiration

I'm feeling very creative and there are so many new beautiful patterns and projects in books and online. Here are some of my favorite things...

From the Purl Bee - a new tutorial to make a very cute fabric necklace. I wish I knew how to use a sewing machine. I have a few little pieces of fabric that would work and I hope I'll be able to sew it by hand. Doesn't it look like the perfect thing to wear with a white T-shirt and jeans?

The Crow Waltz Shawl and the Rectangular Crow Waltz Shawl, both by Juju Vail. They are available for free from the Loop Knit Lounge. They look so pretty in the Old Maiden Aunt yarn, I'm once again wishing I wasn't allergic to alpaca. There are so many nice yarns though, I'm sure I'll find something to use ;)

For a more summery shawl, I love the Maia Shoulderette by Rosemary Hill. I have some handpainted yarns that would look lovely in this pattern. I really like the leaf pattern that goes in many directions - it's something different that really makes it stand out. One more thing to my Ravelry queue!

Another summer project I want to knit is the Watershed cardigan by Amy Swenson. I would like to make it in mercerized cotton; I think it would look lovely in a bright color or light gray.

A very cute book filled with adorable little projects - Whip Up Mini Quilts. Yes, I don't sew and yes, I've ordered the book. I first saw it on Moonstitches' blog, the leaf quilt on the cover is her design. Everything in the book looked so pretty and I couldn't resist! Even if I don't make anything from it soon, it will be wonderful for ideas and inspiration.

I'm also looking forward to getting the new Rowan magazine that just came out. I absolutely love the colorwork patterns, like the one on the cover.

And... Ysolda Teague posted an interview she did for Let's Knit2gether on her blog . It's fun and interesting; she shows many of her designs, including some of the patterns that will be in her new book. The new patterns look great, you can also see two of them in this post. Her designs really look good on everyone and I think it's great that she has so many sizes in her patterns.

I wish I had a hundred hours every day for knitting and sewing and making things!



Old clothes that I will cut up to make the necklace. I keep things if they're a nice cotton fabric with pretty prints (from the top: a piece from a summer top, a shirt and a skirt).

Παλιά ρούχα που θα κόψω για να φτιάξω ένα κολιέ. Κρατάω πράγματα αν είναι βαμβακερό και καλό το ύφασμα με όμορφα σχέδια (από πάνω: ένα κομμάτι από καλοκαιρινό μπλουζάκι, ένα πουκάμισο και μια φούστα).


Ακόμα περισσότερη έμπνευση

Νιώθω πολύ δημιουργική αυτές τις μέρες και υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά καινούρια σχέδια και άλλες καλλιτεχνικές ιδέες. Σκέφτηκα να μοιραστώ μερικά από τα αγαπημένα μου μαζί σας.

Από το Purl Bee βρήκα αυτές τις οδηγίες βήμα βήμα για την κατασκευή ενός πολύ όμορφου υφασμάτινου κολιέ. Μακάρι να ήξερα να ράβω σε ραπτομηχανή. Έχω μερικά υφάσματα που νομίζω ότι ταιριάζουν και ελπίζω να μπορέσω να το ράψω στο χέρι. Δεν θα δείχνει τέλειο με ένα άσπρο μπλουζάκι και τζιν;

Δύο πανέμορφα σχέδια, για σάλι και κασκόλ. Λέγονται Crow Waltz Shawl και Rectangular Crow Waltz Shawl. Και τα δύο είναι σχεδιασμένα από την Juju Vail. Είναι δωρέαν, στην ιστοσελίδα Loop Knit Lounge. Είναι τόσο όμορφα με το νήμα που διάλεξε η σχεδιάστρια, το Old Maiden Aunt και για μια ακόμα φορά εύχομαι να ήμουν αλλεργική στο alpaca. Υπάρχουν πολλά όμορφα νήματα όμως, είμαι σίγουρη ότι θα βρω κάτι να χρησιμοποιήσω ;)

Για πιο καλοκαιρινό σάλι, λατρεύω το Maia Shoulderette της Rosemary Hill. Έχω μερικά νήματα βαμμένα στο χέρι που θα δείξουν πολύ όμορφα με αυτό το σχέδιο. Μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ το σχέδιο με τα φύλλα που απλώνεται σε πολλές κατευθύνσεις. Είναι κάτι διαφορετικό και πραγματικά ξεχωρίζει. Οπότε ένα ακόμα πράγμα στη λίστα με τα πλεκτά που θέλω να φτιάξω!

Άλλο καλοκαιρινό πλεκτό που θέλω είναι το ζακετάκι Watershed της Amy Swenson. Θέλω να το φτιάξω σε γυαλιστερό βαμβάκι - σε κάποιο έντονο χρώμα ή απαλό γκρι.

Ένα πολύ χαριτωμένο βιβλίο γεμάτο με αξιαγάπητες μικρές δημιουργίες - το Whip Up Mini Quilts. Ναι, είπα ότι δεν ξέρω να ράβω και ναι, το έχω παραγγείλει το βιβλίο. Το είδα πρώτη φορά στο blog Moonstitches. Το κουβερτάκι στο εξώφυλλο με τα φύλλα είναι δικό της σχέδιο. Όλα τα σχέδια είναι τόσο όμορφα που δεν μπορούσα να αντισταθώ! Ακόμα και αν δεν φτιάξω κάτι σύντομα, θα είναι τέλειο το βιβλίο για ιδέες και έμπνευση.

Ανυπομονώ να πάρω και το καινούριο περιοδικό Rowan που μόλις βγήκε. Λατρεύω τα πολύχρωμα σχέδια, όπως αυτό στο εξώφυλλο.

Και τέλος, η Ysolda Teague έχει μια συνέντευξή της στο Let's Knit2gether στο blog της. Είναι πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα συνέντευξη και δείχνει πολλά από τα σχέδιά της καθώς και μερικά από τα σχέδια που θα είναι στο καινούριο της βιβλίο. Τα νέα σχέδια δείχνουν υπέροχα, μπορείτε να δείτε δύο από αυτά εδώ. Τα σχέδιά της δείχνουν ωραία σε όλες όσες τα φοράνε και νομίζω ότι είναι φανταστικό που τα βγάζει πάντα σε πάρα πολλά μεγέθη.

Εύχομαι να είχα 100 ώρες κάθε μέρα για να πλέκω και να ράβω και να φτιάχνω πράγματα!

Finally knitting again

Hello everyone! I have wonderful news: I am finally able to knit again. I'm so happy! I'm a knitter again. I started a sock, the small needles and thin yarn seem to be easier to work with now and don't hurt at all. I really love this sock already, it's so pretty!

I'm also really excited because I'm going to Athens this week and I'm going to meet some of my online knitting friends! I can't wait to meet Maria, we've been talking online for months.

Some exciting news for greek knitters and knitters living in Greece: Maria started a greek group on Ravelry and I think that's just an amazing idea! There are so few resources in greek, nobody seems to know what the individual stitch patterns are called, so hopefully we can all help each other.

I also started a group on Ravelry called Thessaloniki Knitting and Crochet. I'm trying to start a knitting group in Thessaloniki, I would really love to have friends to knit with! If you are in Thessaloniki and you are interested, you are welcome to join the ravelry group and the actual knitting group. And if you aren't a member of Ravelry yet, you really should join. Apart from all this news about greek knitting, there are many new exciting patterns up on the internet.

The new Knitty came out and the patterns are truly beautiful! I usually don't like everything in an issue but this time I really do.

And the new issue of Petite Purls came out. This is a lovely online magazine with free patterns for children. The new issue is very cute and I absolutely love the Ladybug! If you have little ones to knit for, Petite Purls has some great patterns.

Also, another knitting podcast. It's not new, but I just listened to the first episode a few days ago after reading Caffeine Girl's recommendation. The podcast is called Never Not Knitting and it's as lovely as Alana's blog and beautiful patterns. I can't wait to listen to all the episodes!

Γεια σας! Έχω υπέροχα νέα να σας πω, καταφέρα να πλέξω επιτέλους! Είμαι πάρα πολύ χαρούμενη, είμαι πλέκτρια ξανά. Ξεκίνησα μια κάλτσα, οι μικρές βελόνες και το λεπτό νήμα μου κάθονται πολύ καλά στα χέρια και δεν πονάω καθόλου. Έχω ξετρελαθεί πραγματικά με αυτή την κάλτσα, είναι πολύ όμορφη!

Είμαι επίσης πολύ ενθουσιασμένη γιατί θα κατέβω στην Αθήνα και θα γνωρίσω μερικές από της διαδικτυακές φίλες μου! Είμαι πολύ χαρούμενη που θα γνωρίσω επιτέλους τη Μαρία!

Ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον νέο για τις ελληνίδες πλέκτριες του ίντερνετ: η Μαρία ξεκίνησε ένα γκρουπ στο Ravelry στα ελληνικά, καταπληκτική η ιδέα της! Ελπίζω να μπορούμε να βοηθάμε η μια την άλλη με την ορολογία και άλλα τέτοια πράγματα.

Ξεκίνησα και εγώ ένα γκρουπ στο Ravelry για τις πλέκτριες στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Είμαστε λίγες προς το παρόν αλλά ελπίζω να μαζευτούμε περισσότερες. Εκτός από όλα αυτά, υπάρχουν και πολλά καινούρια σχέδια στο ίντερνετ. Βγήκε το καινούριο τεύχος του Knitty και όλα τα σχέδια είναι πανέμορφα. Συνήθως δεν μου αρέσουν όλα σε ένα τεύχος, αλλά αυτή την φορά πραγματικά ξετρελάθηκα με όλα.

Επίσης, βγήκε το καινούριο τεύχος του Petite Purls. Είναι δωρεάν περιοδικό με παιδικά σχέδια και είναι όλα πάρα πολύ χαριτωμένα. Μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ η πασχαλίτσα (Ladybug). Αν έχετε μικρά παιδιά, θα βρείτε σίγουρα κάτι που θα σας αρέσει!

Και τέλος, ένα ακόμα podcast. Δεν είναι καινούριο αλλά μόλις άκουσα το πρώτο επισόδιο. Είχα διαβάσει στο blog της Caffeine Girl πόσο της άρεσε και το δοκίμασα. Το podcast λέγεται Never Not Knitting και είναι υπέροχο, όπως το blog και τα σχέδια της Alana. Ανυπομονώ να ακούσω και τα υπόλοιπα επισόδια!

Spring Knitty!

The new Knitty is up! I love love love the Sourwood Mountain gloves. The Hanne vest is beautiful and looks very interesting. Stripes and garter stitch; perfect! I can't wait to knit it!

Βγήκε το καινούριο τεύχος του Knitty! Λατρεύω τα γαντάκια Sourwood Mountain. Το Hanne είναι πανέμορφο και φαίνεται πολύ ενδιαφέρον. Ρίγες και μια απλή πλέξη, τέλειο! Ανυπομονώ να το φτιάξω!
