Sometimes it's hard to knit with pretty yarn

I recently got some skeins of Malabrigo Rios in the amazing Arco Iris color. When I got them, my first thought was to keep them and pet them and admire them but I'm trying to find a pattern for them.

I've noticed that I have some yarn that is lovely and yet, it's been in my stash for a very long time. Whenever I choose a new project, I look at that yarn and think "What if that isn't the best pattern for it?" or "What if a new pattern comes out in a few days that would be just perfect?" The result of this indecision is that those skeins never get chosen and they probably think I don't love them.

I don't want that to happen to this yarn as well, so I've decided it will be my next big project after Que Sera. I want to make a cardigan with them and I think a simple pattern would work best, to show off the colors. So far, I've found two patterns I like:

The first is the Tappan Zee Cardigan (Ravelry) by Amy King from Knitty. It's designed for handspun yarn and I've seen some lovely colorful versions on Ravelry. I would make it with longer sleeves, maybe 3/4 length and buttons all the way down.

The second pattern I'm thinking of is the Garter Yoke Cardigan (Ravelry) by Melissa LaBarre from Knit.1 Fall/Winter 2008 (also available from the Vogue Knitting website). 

I would love to hear your suggestions - any ideas about what to knit with this yarn?

Ή μπορεί σε μερικές μέρες να βγει ένα καινούριο σχέδιο, που θα ταιριάζει τέλεια με το νήμα. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι ότι κρατάω αυτά τα νήματα και μάλλον θα σκέφτονται ότι δεν τα αγαπάω.

Δεν θέλω να συμβεί το ίδιο και αυτή τη φορά οπότε αποφάσισα ότι θα είναι το επόμενο μεγάλο πλεκτό, μετά το Que Sera που πλέκω τώρα. Θέλω να φτιάξω ζακετάκι και νομίζω ότι ένα απλό σχέδιο θα είναι καλύτερο, για να φαίνονται τα χρώματα. Μέχρι τώρα, έχω βρει δύο σχέδια που μου αρέσουν:

Don't graft after midnight

I'm almost finished with my lace and stripes scarf but I made a silly mistake and now I'm mad at myself. I was grafting the second edging to the scarf, late last night. Getting closer to the end, I counted the stitches on both needles. One needle has an extra stitch. Or, one needle is missing a stitch. I looked for it and found a weird little half stitch loop thingy.



Grafting isn't fast but unpicking the grafted stitches and putting them back on the needles, when you also have loose stitches from lace YOs, is very slow and not fun at all. I've learned my lesson - I'll do the tricky bits in the morning from now on!

Looking on the bright side of this mistake, I have now figured out how to un-graft stitches. It's basically just grafting in reverse, with a lot of frustration, swearing and pulling the stitches and poking around with the needle. Also, did I mention the scarf is almost done? And I have almost half a skein of each color left over - they're going to be part of a stripey leftover cardigan I'm thinking of making.



Έχω σχεδόν τελειώσει το κασκόλ με τις ρίγες και την δαντέλα αλλά έκανα ένα χαζό λάθος και τώρα έχω θυμώσει με τον εαυτό μου! Έραβα (με την τεχνική που κλείνουμε τις κάλτσες) το δεύτερο κομμάτι της δαντέλας στο κασκόλ. Καθώς πλησίαζα στο τέλος της σειράς, μέτρησα τους πόντους στις βελόνες. Μια βελόνα έχει έναν πόντο παραπάνω. Ή μια βελόνα έχει έναν πόντο λιγότερο. Έψαξα τον πόντο που λείπει, μια και αυτή η τεχνική προϋποθέτει ίδια αριθμό πόντων από κάθε μεριά, και βρήκα ένα περιέργο πράγμα, σαν μισός πόντος φαίνεται.

Η διαδικασία από μόνη της δεν είναι πολύ γρήγορη, αλλά το να ξεπλέξω έναν έναν τους πόντους, ειδικά τώρα που έχω από κάτω τη δαντέλα, δεν θα είναι καθόλου διασκεδαστικό! Πάντως έμαθα και από δω και πέρα, τέτοια πράγματα θα τα κάνω πρωί και όχι όταν ξενυχτάω το βράδυ!

Προσπαθώντας να βρω κάτι θετικό στην κατάσταση, έχω βρει τον τρόπο να ξεπλέκω αυτούς τους πόντους. Είναι ακριβώς η ίδια διαδικασία, αλλά αντίστροφα. Συνοδεύεται από εκνευρισμό, μερικές βρισιές, τράβηγμα των πόντων και γενικά εξερεύνηση του πλεκτού με τη βελόνα. Επίσης, σας είπα ότι το κασκόλ είναι σχεδόν έτοιμο; Και μου περίσσεψε και σχεδόν μισή μπάλα από κάθε χρώμα. Ίσως τα βάλω σε ένα ριγέ ζακετάκι που σκέφτομαι να φτιάξω.



I'm going to work on my Que Sera cardigan today, the best cure for a frustrating knitting problem is a project that's working! I'm making progress with my cardigan and I love the yarn. I'm also having so much fun with the KAL we're doing with Mooncalf. She's knitting with Rowan All Seasons Cotton and her cardigan looks lovely!

Σήμερα θα πλέξω το ζακετάκι Que Sera. Το καλύτερο αντίδοτο για ένα εκνευριστικό πλεκτό είναι ένα άλλο που προχωράει καλά! Μου αρέσει πολύ το νήμα και είναι διασκεδαστικό πλεκτό, γιατί το πλέκουμε μαζί με την Mooncalf. Το πλέκει με νήμα Rowan All Seasons Cotton και το ζακετάκι της φαίνεται πολύ όμορφο!

Peacock Tail and Leaf Scarf

We had a knitting meeting on Saturday and I finally got some pictures of a shawl I finished months ago. I'm completely in love with this project; I love the pattern, the yarn and the color! It was a lot of work and I admit it did get a bit boring, but it was worth it. I've been wearing it a lot these days, it's the perfect spring scarf.



Είχαμε συνάντηση πλεξίματος το Σάββατο και έβγαλα επιτέλους φωτογραφίες από ένα σάλι που τελείωσα πριν πολλούς μήνες. Το λατρεύω αυτό το πλεκτό, το σχέδιο, το νήμα και το χρώμα! Είχε πολύ δουλειά και ομολογώ ότι ήταν λίγο βαρετό, αλλά άξιζε τον κόπο. Το φοράω πολύ αυτές τις μέρες και είναι τέλειο για την άνοιξη.



The Wollmeise yarn is unbelievably bright. It really glows and it's absolutely beautiful.
